Videos take a lot of work. If you’re creating recipe videos on your own you know that they take a lot of time, and if you’re outsourcing them you want to make sure you’re getting a good return on your investment.

In this post we’re going to talk about how to choose which recipe to create a video for so you can maximize your investment.

Choose from your top posts

The first place to look for which recipe to create a recipe video for is your top posts. If you’re already with an ad network this is a great place to start because it will quickly give you a return on your investment.

Videos generally earn a great RPM, and choosing one of your top posts will help you earn the most money back. I recommend starting out with videos for your top ten posts, then moving onto the top twenty, forty, or more.

Even if you’re only able to create one or two videos for your top posts, I think it’s going to make a big difference in your income and motivate you to make even more videos from there.

What performs well on social media

Another thing to think about is what will perform well on social media. This could be things like Facebook, Instagram, or Pinterest

It’s important to evaluate your goals and decide what you’re trying to accomplish. Do you want to drive traffic to your blog? Increase your followers? Improve engagement?

I personally have found with my own blog that different types of recipes perform differently on different platforms. It’s important to experiment, look at the data, and think about what you want to accomplish so you can choose the right video.

For example, I know that my Facebook audience wants easy vegan meals that look and taste great. I could share desserts all day and they wouldn’t care, so I try to stick with sharing videos of my best meatless meals (preferably vegan).

Improving SEO for an existing post

Maybe you’re on the second page of google for a post that you’d like to try improve your ranking on. Adding a video can help round out a quality SEO strategy.

A video alone will not skyrocket your position when it comes to search engines, but it can help make sure you’re offering the best, most complete content possible.

Posts that get a lot of questions

If you have an existing post that is always bringing in questions and creating confused readers, this could be a good candidate for adding a recipe video. Take your time and really go in depth to show your readers exactly how to master the technique/recipe you’re sharing.

This will help create successful, satisfied readers who will keep coming back to your site because they know they can trust the quality content you’re putting out.

New recipes

Of course, you could always just start by creating videos for your newest recipes and seeing what works. If you’re just getting started this can be a good way to see what works and what doesn’t both on the production side and how it is received by your audience.

All of these areas are a great place to start when choosing a recipe for a recipe video. Again, be sure to evaluate your personal goals when it comes to creating video so you can make the best choice and see a return on your investment.
