Adobe Rush vs Premiere Pro for Recipe Videos

Should you use Adobe Rush or Adobe Premiere Pro to edit your recipe videos? I’m breaking down a few reasons you might want to use Rush. Watch the video below or keep reading to learn more.

I’ll be honest, I had never used Adobe Rush until a few weeks ago. I just love Premiere Pro so much. It’s powerful, it’s fast, and it can handle anything you throw at it.

After attending the Adobe Max conference as getting to play around with Rush and get to know it a little more, I wanted to talk to you about some of the reasons you might want to use Adobe Rush instead of Premiere Pro.

I don’t think I’ll be switching just yet, but I’m definitely going to keep playing around with it and learning more about how to use it.

Why to use Adobe Rush instead of Adobe Premiere Pro

You are shooting videos on your phone

The first reason you might want to use Rush is if you’re primarily shooting video on your phone. If you’re just starting out in video, you don’t want to invest in a big camera with video capabilities, or you’re just more comfortable shooting on your phone, Adobe Rush makes this really simple not only because it has an in-app camera you can shoot with, but it also means you won’t need to import your footage from your phone into your computer.

You want to shoot in 4K

On a related note, another reason would be if you want to shoot in 4K. Not everyone needs to shoot in 4K. It’s a higher resolution format that’s a good idea if you’re going to be doing more zooming and cropping in editing because your image will have more information.

The camera within the Rush app on your phone will shoot in 4K on the rear facing camera (this may differ on various phones), so this is a great option if your phone does not have a camera that will shoot in 4K.

You want to edit on your phone

The third reason would be if you want to edit on the go, or on your phone in general. This makes shooting and editing videos so convenient.

Not only can you edit an entire video with music, graphics, and transitions right on your phone, but you can start a project in the Rush app, and if you’re syncing to the cloud, pick up that project in Rush on a desktop, or even open it in Premiere Pro to finish it up.

You’re creating videos in multiple sizes

Next, if you’re creating videos for multiple social platforms (and if you’re creating recipe videos, you should be), Rush is a great option with its auto reframe feature. Premiere has a similar feature that I haven’t found to work very well in the past, but Rush makes it really easy to transform a 16:9 video into another size like a square or 9:16.

You’re not interested in learning video editing software

Finally, Rush might be right for you if you’re just not interested in learning a complicated video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro. Personally, I found Rush to be a little difficult to use at first, but I’ve also been immersed in the world of Premiere Pro for years.

Overall I think Premiere Pro has a steeper learning curve, but is easier to use and more powerful in the long run, while Rush is more intuitive to use initially, but can feel a little clunky trying to get it all done on your phone.

I don’t think there’s any one right answer here since everyone is making videos unique to themselves and their business, but I hope this information helps you understand the differences a little more between the two programs and make a decision that’s right for you.
